On or near Chaweng/Lamai Beach?
We are looking at an area to stay in Koh Samui.
Is Chaweng Beach noisy? Are there many restaraunts and shopping on Lamai? We are looking for somewhere quite but close enough to shops, restaraunts and activities

koh samui is a relitivly small island so no matter were u stay it shuldent be to long to the shops. the street of chawang is relitivly noisy if you are actuly standing on it, but once in the hotels, you wont here it… my advise is to stay on chawang peferably in the central samui hotel. it is big and not noisy in the hotel. there are many resterants and shoping all along chawang. some good resterants are pregos, zicos, and any of the varios indian cuasine resterants!. anyways i hope this helps, have fun!!!
Lamai is quiet. I stayed at Spa Samui for about 15 days and getting to shops is quick and cheap (around 40baht).
There are 40baht "taxis" running all of the time.
Watch out for the rainy season though…
i have just come back from koh samui and i found the best place to stay if you want a medium budget is the impiana hotel,
the location is not right in the busy part and is very close to the main strip of chaweng 5 min taxi which cost like 80p,
there is only 1 hotel near so the beach doesnt get to busy,
go to the impiana web site and hav a look,
also any1 going try the spring rolls and sweetcorns that u can get on the beach, cook 2 order, god they are good…………….
aslo
red snapper restaurant and poppys, probably need 2 book
happy holiday,
Koh Samui is not that large. Chaweng is very touristy and noisy and Lamai is pretty seedy – lots of girly bars and stuff. If you stay in Chaweng away from the beach you can get cheap taxis/tuk tuks to the action; likewise, if you stay at Big Buddha Beach.
